Media Center

Media Center Closed

This media center is part of library in a private home. It was part of a complete renovation of an 18th century house. This is also curly cherry.

The pair of doors on this media center are over seven feet high and weigh about 100 pounds each. They are mounted on flipper door hardware. I spent a lot of time getting them to work right. I added rollers to the slot underneath the door to take the weight when the doors are open. I added no mar nylon ball bearing rollers which were shower door replacements to keep the door away from the flipper door hardware. Then I added guide block to guide the door on to the nylon rollers as the door was being opened. Success! The doors work like they are supposed to.

Audio and video equipment is continually being reinvented. Designing a space always starts with a list of the components and the dimensions.

It is also important to make the space flexible enough that existing equipment can be replaced with new as technology changes. The panels on either side of the television and around the speaker which, as I recall is a subwoofer, are removable. There is lots of space on the shelves for future generations of equipment.
